This year marks the 100th Anniversary of Commercial Metal Forming, a significant supplier of tank heads and accessories for industries including petrochemical, LPG, oil fields, construction equipment, rail and truck transportation, oil and gas separation, food processing, and filtration. In addition to its main plant in Youngstown, Ohio, it operates facilities in Saginaw, Texas and Orange, California. The West Coast operation, the former Orange County Metal Works, was purchased in 1980 by CMF's predecessor, Commercial Intertech.
Founded in 1920 as Commercial Shearing and Stamping, its signature products were beds for dump trucks. Inthe late 20s and 30s, Commercial expanded its offerings to meet the growing demand for new and innovative steel products. America's entry into World War II brought the company to prominence as one of the country's leading suppliers of parts and equipment to the U.S. armed forces.
The acquisition of Orange County Metal Works met the company's objectives of adding West Coast manufacturing and stocking capabilities. Commercial could now offer tank heads of up to 300" in diameters as well as ASME code hand holes and manways.
Hall F&D of Texas was added in 1995 to expand Commercial's presence in the growing Texas and Gulf Coast oil fieldsand petrochemical markets. This acquisition enabled Commercial to supply larger dished and flanged heads to the Southeast, Midwest, and Eastern markets at very competitive pricing.
Then operating as Commercial Intertech, the company was purchased by Parker Hannifin in 2000, who later sold the firm to Metal Technology Solutions. Today, as Commercial Metal Forming, the company's storied legacy of innovation and service continues to grow.
"This anniversary is more than a milestone. It marks the birth of our second century of commitment to our people, our customers, and our community," states Commercial President & CEO,Bob Messaros. "Only .5% of manufacturing companies reach this pinnacle." Reflecting on the reason for success, Messaros emphasizes that the company has long been blessed with people of vision that have continually invented the future.
When asked to explain what has driven Commercial's legacy of success, West Coast Sales Manager,Jill Donahue was quick to respond, "People. People. And People."
The company has launched a rebranding initiative as it enters into a new era with a redesigned logo and the tag line--Honor the Past. Seize the Future.
